About Me

Transitioning from Neuroscience to Woodwork.

I spent over 30 years working in Neuroscience after receiving my PhD in Neuropharmacolgy from Edinburgh University Medical School in Scotland.  I then mover to the USA and have conducted medial research for the next 30 years in Galveston Texas, Boston, and finally Atlanta.  Science was my passions and consumed much of my free time.  However, it was also somewhat ethereal as we were constantly trying to push back the known boundaries of scientific knowledge. To relax and have something that would give me a concrete end result I took up making small jewelry boxes from high contrast hardwoods (see Gallery).

After I took early retirement (a mistake) I soon realized that I needed more to occupy my time than I had planned for.  Since then I have refurnished my kitchen and living room cabinets with home made designs.  Then I built a micro-hydroelectric system at the back of my house for a backup energy supply.  But I always gravitated back to woodwork and have expanded my skill set to include CNC 3D modeling and engraving, and photo-etching of metal to create more interesting and varied designs.  Feel free to ask about any aspect of any of these techniques and I will happily answer as best I can.

Cheers, Tig
